I was subjected to a 10 - minute harangue by my friend today. This is not about the harangue because I wasn’t listening but something tells me I should feel bad about it. Also, don’t you just love the word 'harangue’? I’ve never actually heard anyone say it in a sentence but I think it’s something serious yet poor people say. I don’t think a rich man has the time for all that nonsense. A rich man would’ve said 'rant’. Rich men use shorter and sometimes wrong words. They are confident that whatever they say would sound right in your head.

Now that I think about it, my friend has never had a fit before. He has never been happy except he was happy for me. He has never been sad unless he was sad because of me. He has just always been there. He has never talked about his birthdays, family meetings, women and other problems he might have had.

The last time we spoke was 2 hours ago when he said people don't need money to be happy. I quickly convinced him that if there was a gift he didn't discuss with God when He was creating him, it was the gift of sense.

But he was my friend. I was 6 and he was 2 months older when we met. The best thing about our friendship is it’s one-sidedness. He’s given me the gift of good and bad advices, the gift of listening to me, the gift of always sticking by my side, the gift of letting me win arguments to feel good. I’ve never given him any gift. I don’t want to. God has given him the best gift - the gift of being with Him. There’s nothing I can do for him now.

He started talking to only me 10 years ago, at least that’s what he told me. I didn’t want him but he was persistent, he said "do you have anyone else to talk to?". Pride did not allow me admit he was right but look at me now, I’ve spoken with him every 2 hours in the past 2 years. Sometimes people see us walking on the street and they greet only me. Maybe it’s blindness or disrespect or the combination of both.

Now he's here - telling me his problems.

Do dead people have problems? I ask after he’s been silent for a few minutes

I guess not, he says

"Good! Now there's this girl...."
